If I could trace a line from where I am to where you are,
I’d make sure I follow it through the distance,
I’d count the steps to see you.
If I believed the earth is flat, I’d believe you are in front of me.
But if I believed the earth is round, would the line be the same?

I have always wondered how far from us, if we could measure it, is the horizon we see.
Sometimes I believe that if I follow that horizon, I will never get to the end. Instead, after
following it, I would go back to the place where I saw it for the first time. Like following a
curved segment that, in some way, will be joined again.
Sometimes we forget that the world is round.
We live deceived by what we see, but we forget what we have understood. This is a world of
appearances. If someone told us that something was made of stone or metal, we believed it
because we did not know its shape, color, and texture. When the world was assumed to be flat,
we needed proof or something else beyond faith to overcome fear. We realized the world seemed
to be flat because of that horizon that would get, in some moment, to the end. We would fall into
the void, but the world is round and the big flat surface becomes curved.
Sonnia through her artworks questions what we see and understand. Therefore, Curvilínea is a
project that was thought for the space, but inside it leads to a bunch of possibilities arising from
the pun, matter, and questioning of the images’ veracity. The poetics that an image can have is
such that it can be seen physically in space. After all, this is a world of appearances and we are
the ones who are questioned.
