Pronóstico del tiempo is an action that I propose as a poetic and speculative reading of the idea of "measuring time", resorting, as a game, to different imaginaries and human technologies. The project began by sending a letter from Bogotá (Colombia), the city where I live, to the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), where it was received by me.

Alluding to the aporia of the Greek philosopher Zeno, the paradox of "Achilles and the tortoise", I propose a race against time between two bodies: the letter’s and mine. Granting the letter a two-day head start before I fly to our common destination, and challenging, like the tortoise in his race with Achilles, the theoretical physics as an idea and the event as a story, a work, and a practice.

The letter is a smell and an intention. In Colombia, an ancient peasant tradition made the act of smoking tobacco a unit of measurement of spacetime. In the Colombian countryside it is common to estimate how long it would take to get from "x" to "y" place by the amount of tobacco smoked during that a journey. At the same time, tobacco is thought to be plant of power that is used in different ceremonial or esoteric settings to predict the future. The letter, a handmade leaf made of koso fiber, was exposed to a tobacco reading, which impregnated the body-letter with the smell of smoke, and gave rise to a first account of this experience.

Pronóstico del tiempo is an adventure of fiction and speculation. Here, art as a practice, operates by recovering its capacity to produce other possible imaginaries from fiction and chance in an action over which has a rather limited margin of control. Also, it is a way in which I can appropriate human technologies that, at first sight, would seem incompatible: postal mail, a paradox of classical physics, and a plant of power as ritual, ceremony and, even for some, a "superstition" de-hierarchizing popular knowledge and canonical sciences.
